WINWIN donates 20,000 euros to Die Tafel Österreich
To mark its 20th anniversary last year, WINWIN donated 20 cents for every coffee sold to Die Tafel Österreich. The amount collected has now been rounded up to 20,000 euros and handed over.
In 2024, both WINWIN and Die Tafel Österreich had anniversaries to celebrate: WINWIN opened its first location in Mayrhofen in Zillertal 20 years ago, and Die Tafel Österreich celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024.
WINWIN is Austrian Lotteries’ successful concept for an Austria-wide terrestrial offering of slot machines (so-called VLTs) with a total of 20 locations all over Austria. In keeping with this anniversary, WINWIN also expanded its social commitment at all 20 locations throughout Austria last year. A donation of 20 cents per coffee sold was made to Die Tafel Österreich to draw attention to food waste and poverty in Austria and their consequences for society and the environment.
Peter Simoner, Managing Director of WINWIN: “We wanted to expand our overall corporate social commitment throughout Austria. In Die Tafel Österreich, we have found exactly the right partner to raise awareness of the important issue of food waste not only regionally, but throughout Austria. We are delighted that we can now present 20,000 euros in support of Die Tafel Österreich to mark the end of the anniversary.”
Erwin van Lambaart, Director General of Austrian Lotteries, added: “For us, responsible behaviour is always our top priority, both in gambling, for example with the highest possible level of player protection, but also as an important partner for society in sports, culture and the social sector throughout Austria. Our employees also live this responsibility and contributed to us being able to support Die Tafel Österreich in its valuable work in 2024 as part of the anniversary celebrations.”
Dr. Alexandra Gruber, Managing Director of Die Tafel Österreich, said: “Since 1999, we’ve been salvaging food that is still perfectly good to eat and supplying it to people living in poverty via social organisations, free of charge, at this point throughout all of Austria. While more than one million tonnes of food are thrown away every year, 420,000 people in our country suffer from severe food poverty. We are delighted with WINWIN’s commitment and generous donation, which will help us to continue to build the much-needed bridge from abundance to need and draw attention to these imbalances in our society.”
