Corporate Social Responsibility
In scarcely any other branch of business is socially responsible action of such central importance as it is in gambing.
"Gaming with responsibility" is not just a slogan; it's the guiding principle of all of our business activities. Thus the social responsibility of Casinos Austria and the Austrian Lotteries Group extends much further than player protection or responsible gaming. It encompasses the entire spectrum of economic, ecological and social responsibility toward society along the value chain. We aim to be "best in class" in this regard.
To professionalise our commitment, we have developed a CSR management guideline in accordance with Austrian standard ONR 192500 "Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)". The effectiveness of the management system has been reviewed by Austrian Standards.
CSR Strategy 2020 "People-Gaming-Environment"
Our CSR Strategy 2020 "People-Gaming-Environment" shows how we fulfil our social responsibility as defined by the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. The six areas of activity resulted from the 2017 CSR stakeholder questionnaire and illustrate our biggest areas of activity in sustainability.
CSR Reports
Reporting on our CSR activities has been important to us for many years. We aim to be transparent for our stakeholders and demonstrate our approach in the area of sustainability.
The first CSR report was published in 2007. Since 2012 we have produced a joint CSR report for the entire group. In doing so, we maintain strict compliance with the latest guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative. Since 2016 we have written our CSR reports on the basis of the GRI standards (2016).
CSR Partnerships
As part of our social responsibility, we are committed to sustainable development as defined by the Sustainable Development Goals. In the scope of this, we address the ecological, social, and economic effects of our activity. An important issue is the promotion and support of Austrian tourism as well as socio-political concerns, particularly in the area of social affairs, sports and culture. We therefore establish CSR partnerships in which we are a strong partner, not merely a sponsor.
Corporate Volunteering – Five working days per year for social engagement
In 2013 we launched an Austria-wide corporate volunteering programme for all employees of our group, which grants them time for social engagement. Over 700 employees have already taken advantage of this offer and worked for organisations such as Caritas, Hilfswerk, Lebenshilfe, Soma, Wiener Tafel and the Austrian Red Cross. The enormous response led management to expand the programme in 2018 and to grant five days per employee and year with full pay, rather than one as before.
What matters is personal initiative. In the scope of corporate volunteering, employees can take action themselves and advocate for important causes. They also have the chance to recommend projects and organisations that are important to them and which they would like to support.
