For seven years now, Vienna’s ImPulsTanz Festival has been organising free dance classes under the name of “Public Moves” in public spaces every summer. Based on an idea by Austrian Lotteries, sessions are now being offered outside of Vienna for the first time – in Carinthia, Salzburg and Upper Austria. They will start on Thursday, May 30 at 5:00 pm in the Landhaushof in Klagenfurt.

From the end of May to August 9, this series of events will be touring from Klagenfurt via Linz and Salzburg to Vienna. The Public Moves dance classes are held daily, under the open sky. Over 170 international and local instructors will share their expertise in over 350 free outdoor classes at a total of ten locations, ranging from yoga to Bollywood dance to hip hop. As always, no previous experience is necessary, and all ages and skill levels are welcome to attend.

Erwin van Lambaart, Director General of Austrian Lotteries, had this to say: “In keeping with our guiding principle ‘Playsponsible – Practicing Responsibility Together!’, we want to realise and support projects that provide low-threshold access to cultural experiences and reach as many people as possible. We’re delighted that, thanks to Austrian Lotteries, the free ‘Public Moves’ dance classes this year will take place not only in Vienna, but also in other regions across Austria.”

Karl Regensburger, ImPulsTanz Director, added: “Thanks to our partnership with Austrian Lotteries, the free dance classes organised by Public Moves will also be held in Klagenfurt, Linz and Salzburg for the first time this year. Our efforts with regard to accessibility include open teaching methods and accessible locations to ensure that anyone can participate regardless of their needs and abilities. This allows us to provide not just low-threshold, but also barrier-free access for everyone.”

At Public Moves 2024, there will also be an even stronger focus on accessibility, for example, one class in each city will be translated into Austrian sign language (österreichische Gebärdensprache, ÖGS), almost all locations are accessible and for people with disabilities, the ImPulsTanz team, together with the support of Licht ins Dunkel, will be on hand in advance and on site to help make it possible for everyone to take part in the classes. Everyone is welcome to join, free of charge, and learn different dance styles.

Sessions:

· Klagenfurt: May 30 to June 9 in the Landhaushof

· Linz: June 13 to 23 in the Lentos Kunstmuseum

· Salzburg: June 27 to July 7 on the Skulpturenterrasse of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg

· Vienna: from June 8, the first of a total of seven Viennese locations with yoga, house, and improvisation dance styles and much more will open in Seestadt.

· From July 12 to August 9, you’ll be able to dance once again in front of the MuseumsQuartier, on the Papstwiese, at the Kaiserwasser and at the Hirschstetten bathing lake as well as at two other locations – from jazz to country line dancing to technosomatics.

Registration is possible one day before the start of the course from 11:00 a.m. via the calendar at ImPulsTanz – Public Moves. If a class is marked as “fully booked” on the calendar, it is still possible to get a remaining spot on site. It’s worth stopping by!
