Austrian Lotteries celebrated 42 millionaires
This is what Austrian Lotteries can look back on for the year 2024: 494 top prizes, two winning six-number combinations in the double-digit million range, 42 millionaires, three out of eleven EuroDreams top prizes in Austria – and a “six-number combo like in the good old days”
Every year at Austrian Lotteries, there is always something special, something unique. And 2024 is no exception. But in the 38th year of the company’s existence, it wasn’t so much a result of the prize calculation – of course 494 top prizes and two six-number combos beyond the 10 million euros are nothing to sneeze at – but what’s significant actually comes from the phase before that: the drawing of the winning numbers. The six lucky numbers drawn on July 24 were 12, 30, 32, 34, 37 and 43 – a combination that had already been drawn once before... on January 22, 2014. It’s remarkable in that there are a total of 8,145,060 different number combinations, but there have only been 1,134 draws between these two identical rounds. In any case, the two six-number winners from 2014 no longer played these numbers, because in July 2024 the draw ends with a jackpot.
With respect to the number of top prizes and million-euro wins, 2024 is slightly above the high level of the previous year. Prizes amounting to at least six figures were won 494 times (this number was topped only once, in 2021). Of these, 42 prizes were in the millions. The following picture emerges once the wins are broken down into individual games:
Lotto “6 out of 45”: 88 top prizes (36 of these in the millions)
LottoPlus: 35 top prizes
EuroMillions (incl. “ÖsterreichBonus”, the Austria bonus draw): 216 top prizes
Joker: 79 top prizes (1 of these in the millions)
Class lottery: 27 top prizes
Scratch-off ticket: 11 top prizes
Toto (football pool): 6 top prizes
Bingo: 5 top prizes
TopTipp: 3 top prizes
Break-open ticket: 2 top prizes
Special promotions: 13 top prizes (5 of these in the millions)
Electronic lotteries (win2day): 9 top prizes
While only one win in the double-digit million range was recorded at the beginning of the year (with the record 14.9 million win from 2018), two six-number combo wins that exceeded the 10-million-euro mark were added during the course of the year: in September, a man from Styria won around 11.2 million euros, making it the highest Austrian lottery gaming win of the year. In October, a man from Carinthia won around 10.9 million euros – and both managed to win a seven-fold jackpot single-handedly.
Austria put in an outstanding international performance in the most recently launched lottery game: EuroDreams. In the eight participating countries, the top prize was won a total of 11 times in 2024, three of which were in Austria: since April, July and December respectively, one lottery player each from Tyrol, Styria and Carinthia has been enjoying a monthly income of €20,000 that will last for a period of 30 years.
July, January and August are considered lucky months
If we analyse the individual months with regard to luck, then July – with the six-number combo share ticket win – surely had to be Lady Luck’s favourite. (This is not taking into account the “Austria Super Bonus” rounds in April and August, in which 50 prizes of 100,000 euros each were drawn in a single go.) There were 55 top prizes, 25 of which were for this very share ticket win after a quadruple jackpot: they shared the 4.5 million euros and received individual prizes between 108,000 and 540,000 euros, depending on the number of shares. Second place was shared between January and August, with 37 top-prize winners each.
